Savage's Crossing to Burton's Bridge
REVISED MEETING POINT
I have just discovered that there is a large fun run (approx. 900 participants) on Sunday 8th July, starting around 9.00am in the centre of Fernvale. It will therefore be hard to find parking. As a result, we will meet at Savage’s Crossing.
NEW MEETING PLACE:
Savage’s Crossing (at 9.30am)
DIRECTIONS:
Coming along the Brisbane Valley Highway, just as you get into Fernvale there will be a few shops on your right. You will then see (on your right) Banks Creek Road, which takes you to Savage’s Crossing.
After turning into Banks Creek Road, drive along it until you reach a T-junction. Turn left at the T-junction. After driving a few hundred metres farther, Banks Creek Road turns sharply to the right. Follow it until you reach Savage’s Crossing. We will meet on the far side of the bridge over the crossing.

UPPER BRISBANE RIVER
(SAVAGE’S CROSSING TO BURTON’S BRIDGE)
RECREATION PADDLE
WHEN: Sunday 8th July - meet 9.30 am opposite Fernvale bakery. Trip starts approx. 10 am at Savage’s Crossing. Trip finishes approx. 1.00 pm at Burton’s Bridge.
WHERE: The upper Brisbane River is nothing like the city reaches. The course for the BV100 (Brisbane Valley100) race, there are narrow, winding, short sections of running water followed by longer, lagoon-like reaches. Paddling distance is about 12-13 km. Normally there are numerous trees and shrubs along the banks and in the gravel sections. Since the flood the landscape has changed. This will be a chance to see what the flood has done.
WHAT: Anything from a TK1 to a sea kayak will do. Bring food and something to drink, as this is a rec. trip and we’ll stop for nourishment along the way. A spare thermal and a towel might be advisable in case it’s a cool day and someone goes for an accidental swim.
HOW: Travel along the Ipswich Motorway until you pass the Redbank Plaza shopping centre (Redbank Plains) on your left. After about another 2.25-2.50 km veer off to your left along the Warrego Highway (heads towards Toowoomba). Follow that highway to Blacksoil and pass a small shopping centre (including a plant nursery) on your right. Then turn right into the Brisbane Valley Highway which heads towards Fernvale and Esk. Meet opposite Fernvale bakery, right in the middle of Fernvale. Proceed about 1km back towards Brisbane and turn left into road to Savage’s. Turn left at the t-junction along the way.
MAP: The attached maps show the BV100 course for racers and for land crew. Land crew map shows directions for cars.
RSVP: Bill Edwards on 3848-8827 or 0423-090-998 by Fri. 6th July.
